Just a template driven pages that help people with minimal html knowledge to publish their articles. But wait how this blog thing different from website and it will help my retail web site?
Well, let's roll up the sleeves.
Blogs are indexed differently and area is broader than just Google. So you have a unique chance to be exposed and to be seen and heard. If your website is not listed in top 3 pages on Google then it's tough for your business. You gotta shell out $$$$ for sponsored search and keep working on those backlinks to improve your page ranking with Google.
So the Blog is absolutely a must!
What would be a good example on how to make a relevant business blog?
For example your website sells electronics. Create a free blog either on blogger.com, wordpress.com etc and start writing reviews of upcoming electronic products and link products to your retail website. Think about writing on gift ideas - gadgets, cameras, electronic photo frames etc - Christmas is around the corner!
Your presence will be seen by other worlds where Google could not take you. Also keep in mind that that social bookmarks(see little icons after each post here?) play a role in your ranking as well. See my other blog on how to embed(article) it or which ones have the majority of users(article).
Quality Content only!
Don't write just anything. Try to write about high quality products and why you are recommending it. If you are not convinced about buying this product for yourself or for your family because of the quality issues don't write about it! People will not come back to your blog if they get burned once because of your lack of expertise!
